Aston Martin’s 2024 Formula 1 season hasn’t started particularly well, especially compared to last year, when Fernando Alonso achieved six podiums in the first eight races of the calendar. To turn the situation around, Silverstone’s team wasted no time in updating the AMR24 in the March races, and now in Suzuka, they will further improve their car.
Dan Fallows, the technical director of the British team, has planned several aerodynamic improvements, mainly on the floor and bodywork, as Aston Martin has already confirmed.
In addition, the Italian press points to the beam wing, an aerodynamic component at the rear of the car, located between the rear wing and the diffuser, whose main goal is to reduce pressure in the rear area, which improves the diffuser’s performance and increases aerodynamic load. The British team will bring a new version of this piece to the fourth race of the calendar.
Some Italian media estimate that these Aston Martin improvements at the Japanese Grand Prix could yield a benefit of two tenths per lap to the team, which, if confirmed, could greatly help the English team battle with Mercedes and McLaren, and thus move away from their defined position as the fifth team on the grid, especially on a circuit like Suzuka, which is expected to determine the pecking order of teams in 2024.
